Gifted to the village under the care of a team of Trustees in 1922, the Mission Hall, as it was known, and the adjoining caretaker’s cottage were designed to promote the ‘spiritual, moral and social welfare of the people generally living in the Village of Ackleton’. For over a century, it’s been the beating heart of our small community, witnessing church services, meetings, sports clubs, ‘potty pantos’, fundraisers, social gatherings and family celebrations for generations of villagers. And it continues to serve the residents of a 21st century Ackleton.
Just as times change, so the Hall adapts to the needs of each new generation. Although it’s no longer incorporated into the local Diocese, the village continues to mark the changing of the seasons with Harvest and Christmas celebrations – particular highlights of the calendar. We’re lucky to have the support of the Ackleton Community Group, who host regular coffee mornings and social nights as part of their commitment to the Warm Welcome Hub initiative, as well as organising a wide range of social events which more then fulfil the promise of ‘social welfare’ cited in the original indenture.
In the 2020s, the Trustees are committed to continue the restoration and renovation of this important village building, ensuring that it’ll continue to benefit the community for centuries to come. We warmly invite you to be part of that journey.
As of 2026, Ackleton Village Hall is under the care of three dedicated trustees who all reside within the village. They are guided by legal adviser Steven Corfield and financial consultant Bill Baker.
Our head trustee, Vicky has worked in teaching for over 25 years and lived in Ackleton for over 30 years. When she’s not busy powering through grant applications and collating quotes from tradespeople, she can be found playing netball or baking.
Semi-retired consultant Brendan has lived and worked all over the world – from Germany to South East Asia. But Ackleton has remained his family home for over 30 years. His business accumen is invaluable and he’s no stranger to getting stuck in with Hall repairs.
Alex works in construction and isn’t one to shy away from a challenge, which is why he leads the restoration activities in the Hall. An avid Wolverhampton Wanderers fan, he dedicates much of his time away from the Molineux to his wife and young son.
