March 2026

Another busy month in Ackleton has just gone by and we have so much good news to share!

Firstly, at the end of March, we were successful in our application to the Shropshire Grassroots Fund, administered by Community Resource; we were awarded £1000, which we have put towards 8 new foldable trestle tables.  Further good news came at the beginning of April when we heard from the Bernard Sunley Foundation with the pledge of £4000 towards the replacement of the kitchen roof – all we have to do now is raise the rest!

March saw us celebrate National Village Halls week, starting with an interview on Radio Shropshire to talk about the support we get from Community Resource and to promote our bid to get 100 volunteer hours at the Hall. Seven days later and thanks to our fantastic volunteers, we had achieved our goal. We painted & pruned, decorated & dug, barrowed & built and finished the week with a litter pick, which saw a record number of 21 Ackleton ‘wombles’ making the village more beautiful.

Just because volunteer week was over, the work didn’t stop – the following Monday saw the dynamic father son duo of Steve and Joe Smith and Luke from Stanford Building and Landscaping arrive with a digger to clear all round the hall. Then it was back to our volunteers to shovel and barrow 12 tonnes of hardcore and gravel – we are now the proud owners of a very smart path round the building and lots of aching muscles!

At our March social night, we drew the latest winners of the 200 Club – Congratulations to:

1st Prize: Brenda Gascoine

2nd Prize: Tracy Smith

3rd Prize: Jenny Bartley
