October got off to a fantastic start with the village Scarecrow Competition and Harvest Supper: as ever, the scarecrows were imaginative and amusing and our local councillor, Dawn Husemann enjoyed a walk round the lanes to view them. Fortunately, her ‘Shirey Ballas’ vote was not required to settle the final placings and Faye and Tom were crowned over all winners with their new baby announcement created in straw!

Over 60 villagers and friends came together in the evening to enjoy the hospitality of the Ackleton Community Group and enjoyed delicious jacket potatoes (thanks to John and Mary Chester for their donation) and chilli, hearty soup and delicious bubbling fruit crumbles and custard. Vinnie read a harvest poem for us and we received enough donations for Bridgnorth Foodbank to fill a small car!
Later in the month, the hall looked fantastic for our Preloved and Prosecco Evening – top brands abounded and the fizz flowed. Sadly, we were a little short on customers, but those of us who were there, had a great time and will be walking round the village in each other’s clothes for weeks to come!
Our October coffee morning had some special guests: PC Lall, PC Nock and PCSO Oakley from the local police team visited to share information with local residents and to enjoy coffee and cake. One young visitor in particular was very excited to sit in the police car.

Coffee mornings and social events keep the coffers ticking over and thanks to one of our happy customers from the Wine Tasting, we have received a £500 donation from OSB Group from their good causes budget towards our renovations – thank you! Our next major fundraiser will be the launch of the Ackleton Village Hall 200 Club – more details of how to join in with this in the next issue!
